£15.95
Bring HOPE into your life.
These stunning ceramic soap dishes have been handmade by London ceramicist Cathy Green. They are perfect for soap or shampoo bars and create a beautiful feature for any bathroom or kitchen. The inset decorative wording will stop the soap from sitting in water so that it lasts longer and the raised edge will hold the soap on the dish when wet. Made in small batches they are decorated with a luxurious hand-colored bubble glaze, in a soft grey, neutral tone.
Buy this soap dish and a Department of Hygiene Soap or Shampoo Bar for yourself or as a gift.

HOW ITS MADE

Smooth white earthenware clay is pressed into homemade plaster moulds. Each soap dish is hand trimmed and allowed to dry slowly for around a week before its first firing. The dishes are then individually sanded until smooth, before the decoration and glaze are applied and the dishes re-fired to a higher temperature. Following this glaze firing, they are re-sanded as required. Finally, a tiny rubber dot is applied to each of the 4 corners of the base so that the dish sits gently on your bathroom or kitchen surface and avoids the risk of chipping. Colour may slightly vary due to the small batch, handmade nature of the product,
Each soap dish takes around 2 weeks to make from start to finish and are made in small batches.
SUSTAINABLE

Earthenware clay is used for these soap dishes so that they can be fired to a lower temperature than other clays. I fire my kiln only when it is full to minimise the frequency of my firings.
The production process has been designed to minimise wastage, recycling and reusing all my unfired clay.
Like all ceramic objects, the soap dishes will chip or break if dropped onto a hard surface, but otherwise will last forever.
